Well, we reached 52 hours and the 50 hour service was completed. No surprises, no problems; oil and filters changed, everything lubed, adjustment made to the cruise control brake pedal microswitch, the grille guard was straightened for free (it saved the radiator, lights and hood, by the way, when I was less than careful a couple of weeks ago). Added double wheel weights to the rear wheels. And the dealer put in (at no charge) a flexible rubber seal between the front lower hood lip and the battery support, to keep the weeds and flower seeds from getting to the radiator. I've had an excellent experience with my DX40 so far, and I can't wait for tomorrow! Bill

A few years ago, a Texas singer/songwriter named Don Walser wrote "The John Deere Tractor Song".... he's classified as a "Country" singer, but he's more traditional Country, with a varied repertoire including lot's of rockabilly. He does the song on his CD named "Rolling Stone From Texas"... we start our day off with "The John Deere Tractor Song", and the days always go well after that! And no, I don't have an interest in this or any other record business... I just like the guy's music and his JD song, even though I drive a Case. It's great!

I haven't had time yet... the tilling is done and I took it off; it worked very, very well. Plan was to try the mower without the FEL today, but I had to work at the paying job. Now we'll be out of town for two weeks starting Friday, and I'm trying to try it out Wednesday or Thursday. I'll let you know as soon as I can.

to Frank R Taylor, re. stopping the aging process: I've been wondering the same thing! I wonder if some beet pulp mixed with a little Elmer's glue might help us... perhaps a little garlic and butter sauce added?

Thanks to all who posted pricing and tactor and feature comparison information here in the last few months... we have a new CASE-IH DX40 being delivered this coming week by Rader Equipment in Bremen, IN (we're in Southwest Michigan, about 30 miles away). All the info posted here has been really helpful, but it came down to color... with a blue car and white P/U truck, we needed red to complete the patriotic color scheme... Seriously, it was just the dealer's attitude that clinched it for us, and the price was OK too. It's coming with a lot of options, including the FEL, HD bucket, toothed bar, and a Curtis 7' hydraulic angle front blade that attaches to the FEL bucket attach points. We also picked up a 72" med. duty Brush Bull, 72" HD tiller and 72" box scraper from the John Coussens, the Woods distributor in Mishawaka, IN. John's good to deal with also.

Try Curtis... I like the way they're built and just ordered a 7 footer for my soon-to-be-delivered Case-IH DX40. Take a look at their website, and see what you think.

Take a look at this web site... I just looked at their trailers at a County Fair and they looked OK with the battery/hydraulic tilt.

I'm not an expert, but: I used gasoline in my 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D diesel in the winter from 1976 to 1983, and never had any sign of problem during that time. The M-B owners manual allowed maximum of either 20% 0r 25% to prevent gelling in the cold. Gasoline and diesel fuel formulas are different now, so it's probably not a good practice on a regular basis. Neither our Dodge Cummins diesel nor our new Beetle diesel manuals mention adding gasoline in the diesel fuel. That said, I'd bet you've done no long-term harm because of the short duration it was in the tank before you drained it, and because it's running well now.
